Packers fans won’t enjoy stat from Chiefs-Raiders game
The Green Bay Packers‘ offense has struggled for consistency in the opening five games, and they are averaging just 19.4 points per game.
It’s in part due to the turnover at wide receiver. As Aaron Rodgers builds a connection with new receivers on the team like Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, patience is required.
However, Packers fans tuning into the Kansas City Chiefs-Las Vegas Raiders game on Monday Night Football may have felt a little sad.
The two leading receivers in the game? Las Vegas’ Davante Adams and Kansas City’s Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Yes, the Packers’ top two wide receivers from a year ago.
Adams only had three catches, but he put up a game-high 124 yards and two touchdowns. Valdes-Scantling made six receptions for 90 yards, finishing as the Chiefs’ leading receiver.
The Packers sure would’ve loved to have them wearing green and gold this season.
Adams is one of the league’s best receivers and he had an unstoppable connection with Aaron Rodgers. MVS is one of the NFL’s top deep threats. Despite adding speedy receivers in Watson, Doubs, and Sammy Watkins this season, the Packers haven’t yet had a consistent deep threat.
In time, Watson and Doubs can become great players for Green Bay.
However, during the tough times for this offense, like we saw in the second half of the loss to the New York Giants in London, it’s understandable to miss Adams and MVS.
Both players have enjoyed some success in the opening quarter of the 2022 season.
The hope is that Green Bay will find more consistency on offense as the year goes on and the young receivers gain more experience. Maybe that will happen.
Perhaps general manager Brian Gutekunst will look to make a trade before next month’s deadline, or sign a free agent like Odell Beckham Jr. Time will tell.
