Packers could get Sammy Watkins back in Week 7
The Green Bay Packers could get wide receiver Sammy Watkins back in Week 7.
The Green Bay Packers may get some wide receiver help ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Washington Commanders.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers are activating Watkins from injured reserve, and he was limited at practice on Wednesday.
Watkins has missed the past four games due to a hamstring injury.
Packers: Sammy Watkins could return in Week 7
It remains to be seen whether this means Watkins will be ready to return on Sunday against the Commanders, but it’s a great sign that he returned to practice on Wednesday.
The former first-round pick has only played in two of Green Bay’s six games this season.
He made an impact against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, catching three passes for 93 yards.
However, just as Watkins showed the type of performance he could have in Green Bay’s offense, he suffered a hamstring injury and was placed on injured reserve.
The Packers made the right call, as hamstring injuries can be a problem if a player is rushed back too soon. By placing Watkins on injured reserve, he had to miss a minimum of four games, which took away the chance of rushing him back too quickly.
With Randall Cobb and Christian Watson dealing with injuries, Watkins’ return could come at an ideal time. With his speed and ability to get open downfield, there’s a lot Watkins can add to Matt LaFleur’s offense, as we saw in the Week 2 victory over the Bears.
Watkins’ status for Week 7 will be something to watch.
If he isn’t yet ready to go, the Packers’ top three at wide receiver could be Allen Lazard, Romeo Doubs, and Amari Rodgers.
Even if Watkins isn’t back in Week 7, the fact he practiced on Wednesday is a good sign that he’s close.
