Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb has been placed on injured reserve, but the team has activated Sammy Watkins.

As expected, the Green Bay Packers have placed wide receiver Randall Cobb on injured reserve due to the ankle injury he suffered in last week’s defeat to the New York Jets.

It means the Packers will be without their top slot wide receiver for a minimum of four games.

Cobb will be able to return in Week 11 when the Packers take on the Tennessee Titans at Lambeau Field.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Cobb said the injury is likely to keep him out between two and six weeks. Of course, with him being placed on injured reserve, that now becomes four and six weeks.

While it’s not good news that Cobb will miss a chunk of the season, it’s a far better outlook than expected after Cobb left last week’s game on a cart. Based on Cobb’s reaction, it looked like a serious injury and the fear was his season would be over.

Thankfully, that’s not the case, and Cobb should be able to return this season.

Placing him on injured reserve is the right call. He can now focus on his recovery over the next four weeks without any questions on rushing back sooner.

The good news for the Packers on Saturday is that they have activated Sammy Watkins from injured reserve.

It doesn’t guarantee he will play in Week 7, however. The Packers have added Watkins to the injury report and he is questionable to play on Sunday. However, the fact he is now back on the active roster is an encouraging sign.

With Cobb out, the Packers will need Watkins to pick up where he left off before the injury. He caught three passes for 93 yards in Week 2, the last game he played.
