Packers: Rashan Gary suffers season-ending injury vs. Lions
Green Bay Packers star pass rusher Rashan Gary will miss the remainder of the season.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the Green Bay Packers. Not only have they lost five games in a row, but they will now miss star pass rusher Rashan Gary for the rest of the season.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Gary suffered a torn ACL in the Packers’ loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 9. An MRI will “determine if there is additional damage”.
It means Gary will play no more part in Green Bay’s 2022 season, and due to the timing, it’s possible he could miss the start of next season. Hopefully he can make a quick recovery and is back in time for training camp.
This is just awful news for Gary and the Packers.
The former first-round pick has been Green Bay’s best defensive player this season, making six sacks and 12 quarterback hits in nine games.
According to ESPN, he ranked inside the top 10 among edge rushers for both pass rush win rate and run stop win rate entering Week 9.
Green Bay will miss Gary. He is the team’s best defensive player.
The hope now is that there is no additional damage and he can make a full recovery ahead of the 2023 season.
The Packers’ playoff hopes are effectively over after losing their sixth game of the season, but they will need Gary to play a vital role next year.
Green Bay was hit with a number of injuries in Sunday’s loss to Detroit. Not only did Gary suffer a season-ender, but the Packers also lost Eric Stokes, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, David Bakhtiari, and Aaron Jones to injuries during the game. It’s unclear how much time, if any, these players will miss.
Wishing Gary a speedy recovery and that he’s back to his best in 2023.
