Amari Rodgers

Twelve months ago, it was clear Amari Rodgers shouldn’t be returning punts. Yet, somehow, he remains in the role in 2022, despite fumbling three times in the opening nine weeks.

Rodgers is averaging fewer yards per punt return than he did last season, and he makes far too many mistakes.

With Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Romeo Doubs, and Christian Watson suffering injuries in recent weeks, Rodgers has seen more opportunities on offense. Outside of a couple of nice catches, Rodgers hasn’t offered anything.

With just four receptions for 50 yards, Rodgers hasn’t become a consistent target in the passing game.

It’s still early in his career, but Rodgers hasn’t played like a third-round pick so far. His long-term future shouldn’t be on punt returns and, as of yet, he hasn’t offered much on offense.

Considering the Packers’ injury situation at wide receiver, Rodgers should still continue to get opportunities. At least until Randall Cobb returns from injured reserve.

There’s still time to turn things around, and it would be great if he can do it. The second half of the season will be crucial for Rodgers, who could be playing for his future on the team.

But so far, the Packers’ 2021 third-round pick has offered next to nothing this season.
