Packers: Four free agents who won’t be back in 2023
With the Green Bay Packers’ playoff hopes fading fast, big changes could be on the horizon next offseason. Which upcoming free agents might not be back?
The Green Bay Packers will enter another offseason with limited salary cap resources in 2023, making free-agency signings quite the challenge.
Aaron Rodgers’ future will again take the headlines once this season comes to an end. If he retires, the Packers may enter rebuild mode.
Many upcoming free agents could be gone in 2023. Here are my predictions for four free agents who won’t return next season.
Sammy Watkins
Green Bay signed Sammy Watkins to a one-year deal this past offseason to help add some experience to a wide receiver room without Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown.
Watkins missed four games due to a hamstring injury and has struggled since returning. In his three games back from injury, Watkins has made just four receptions for 48 yards.
The Packers would’ve expected much more from their veteran wide receiver. Watkins and Aaron Rodgers don’t look on the same page, with Watkins appearing to run the wrong route on multiple occasions. The former first-round pick has struggled this season.
This is Watkins’ first season in Green Bay. It may also be his last.
