Packers: Four free agents who won’t be back in 2023
Dean Lowry
Dean Lowry entered 2022 on the back of a career year. Last season, he made a career-best five sacks and nine quarterback hits.
However, he has taken a step back this season.
Lowry has offered next to nothing as a pass rusher, making just 0.5 sacks and three quarterback hits in the opening nine games. According to Pro Football Reference, he has just four pressures, two quarterback knockdowns, and one hurry.
He also isn’t a great run defender. Lowry is an average starting defensive lineman, and it’s somewhat surprising he is still ahead of rookie first-round pick Devonte Wyatt, who has shown great potential in limited snaps this season.
Lowry’s contract is up in the spring, and he will also turn 29 years old next June. Will the Packers be willing to give him anything more than a cheap one-year deal? After drafting Wyatt and T.J. Slaton in recent years, it’s time to move on.
Wyatt should get more snaps in the second half of the season.
Lowry could be another veteran player to sign elsewhere in the offseason, especially if the Packers hit the reset button if Aaron Rodgers retires.
We’ll see. Which upcoming Packers free agents do you think will be playing for new teams in the 2023 season?
