Packers waive former third-round pick Amari Rodgers
After another disappointing special teams performance last week, the Green Bay Packers have waived former third-round pick Amari Rodgers.
This comes as a bit of a surprise, but the Green Bay Packers didn’t have much choice.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have released wide receiver Amari Rodgers and running back Kylin Hill.
Rodgers was a third-round pick by the Packers only last year, while Kylin Hill was picked in the seventh round of the same class.
Rodgers has struggled to find a role on offense in his first two seasons, making only eight receptions. His opportunity came on punt returns, a role he has held for most of his time in Green Bay.
However, after fumbling five times this season, the Packers had no choice but to make a change at punt returner.
And with Rodgers not getting many opportunities on offense, the team has decided to move on.
It’s difficult as Rodgers was a top pick only a year ago, and the Packers hoped he would become a key player.
Hill impressed in the preseason a year ago and made the 53-man roster as Green Bay’s No. 3 running back. He suffered a torn ACL last season, an injury he has only recently returned from.
It’s a shame things haven’t worked out for Hill in Green Bay as he showed so much potential.
Hopefully both players can find new opportunities soon and a fresh start is what they need.
Green Bay now needs to find a new punt returner ahead of a Thursday night matchup with the Tennessee Titans.
