5 massive questions Packers must answer in the offseason
With the Green Bay Packers’ offseason likely starting sooner than expected, here are five massive questions they must answer.
Following the Green Bay Packers‘ seventh defeat of the year, a lost season now looks a real, and likely, possibility.
Questions will be asked.
Were the Packers right to extend Aaron Rodgers’ contract? Did they do enough to support him in the spring?
Nothing can be done about that now. All they can do is focus on the future and what’s next.
It starts with these five massive questions awaiting in the offseason.
1. Time to rebuild or go all-in again in 2023?
Packers president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst, and head coach Matt LaFleur need to have an honest conversation in the offseason.
Is retooling for another all-in year realistic? Can they make it work financially? Can they keep enough key players and strengthen the roster?
Unless they can honestly say the answer is yes, the correct call might be to hit the reset button. Accept that another losing season may await them but, for the team’s long-term outlook, rebuilding is the best option.
If they truly believe they have the resources to keep Aaron Rodgers and build a championship roster, then maybe that’s the answer. And they must also determine whether Rodgers is still able to play at a high enough level to lead the Packers into another deep postseason run.
Can the Packers put together another championship roster in 2023? Probably not, but it’s a question they must answer. If it’s no, then rebuilding is the only sensible choice.
