5. Which coordinators does Matt LaFleur bring back?

It’s not all about the quarterbacks in Green Bay, though.

Head coach Matt LaFleur has some big decisions ahead. Whether it’s a rebuild or another championship push, LaFleur needs to assess his coaching staff and determine where changes may be needed.

Last year, he replaced Mike Pettine with his own defensive coordinator, Joe Barry. The move received plenty of criticism at the time, given Barry’s struggles as a defensive coordinator in the past.

Unfortunately, many are being proven right.

Barry’s scheme has been head-scratching at times. So often on third-and-short, he has the cornerbacks sitting deep, allowing easy completions for first downs. It happened with Pettine as the defensive coordinator, and the same problems remain there with Barry.

Would LaFleur be better off finding a new defensive coordinator in 2023? The Packers have a ton of talent on defense, but they haven’t come close to reaching their potential this season.

The Barry hire hasn’t gone to plan. While it seems unlikely LaFleur would consider an in-season change, he must determine whether to move on in the offseason.

LaFleur had to reshuffle his coaching staff following the departures of Nathaniel Hackett and Luke Getsy in the offseason. Now he must figure out whether more changes are required.
