The Green Bay Packers have only won four games this season with seven defeats.

All signs are pointing to a selection inside the top of the first round of next year’s draft, and it could even be their highest pick for quite some time.

According to Tankathon, the Packers currently own the 11th overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.

There is still one game to play in Week 11, when the Arizona Cardinals take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. If the 49ers win, the Cardinals will fall to 4-7, giving them a higher pick than the Packers.

If that happens, Green Bay will move down to the 12th overall pick in the first round. But if Arizona wins, it will remain the 11th selection for now.

An early draft pick could be just what this team needs. Almost every year during the Aaron Rodgers era, the Packers have picked in the bottom half of the first round. Oftentimes, they have to wait until the late 20s to make their first-round selection.

The Packers have only had a top-15 pick twice since 2009, and both times they hit a home run.

In 2018, Green Bay originally owned the 14th overall selection. GM Brian Gutekunst initially used that pick to trade down for more picks, but then traded back up to the 18th pick before selecting Jaire Alexander.

While Green Bay didn’t end up picking inside the top 15, Gutekunst used that pick to bring back a future first-rounder, before adding a future All-Pro in Alexander.

The following season, the Packers picked 12th overall, their highest selection since 2009. With that pick, they selected edge rusher Rashan Gary, who has become one of the best pass rushers in the NFL.

The Packers need to add a lot of talent to the roster next offseason. An early draft pick could be exactly what they need.
