Do the Packers have any hope of making the playoffs entering Week 12?
So, you’re saying there’s a chance? Well, not really. The Green Bay Packers need a miracle to earn a wild-card berth this season.
Six games remain for the Packers, and they likely need to win all of them even to have hope.
Unfortunately, three of those games come against the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, and Minnesota Vikings, the first two being played on the road.
Good luck running the table.
Winning out might not even be enough, but it would give the Packers a great shot.
Entering Week 12, how likely is a Packers playoff berth? According to FiveThirtyEight’s projections, not all that likely.
FiveThirtyEight projects that Green Bay currently has a six percent chance of making the playoffs.
Even after the Minnesota Vikings’ 40-3 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, they remain overwhelming favorites to win the NFC North. Minnesota has a 98 percent chance of winning the NFC North, according to FiveThirtyEight.
Green Bay has a 0.7 percent chance of winning the division.
It doesn’t help that the Packers’ next game is against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team with an NFL-best 9-1 record. Their only loss came against the Washington Commanders in Week 10.
If Matt LaFleur’s team somehow finds a way to win that game, great, but the tough challenges only keep coming.
The Packers then play the Chicago Bears on the road and the Los Angeles Rams at home with a bye in between. OK, so that doesn’t sound too bad. Let’s say they win both.
Even then, they would have a mountain to climb.
On Christmas Day, Green Bay takes on the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are the AFC East leaders with a 7-3 record, and they have gone 7-1 in games Tua Tagovailoa has started.
Following that is a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. Yes, they just lost to the Cowboys at home, but they destroyed the Packers in Week 1 and have beaten Green Bay in three of the past four matchups.
Finally, the Packers host the Lions in Week 18. If they are still in contention by then, maybe they have a chance.
But it would take a miracle for Green Bay to win out from here.
