Packers 2023 mock draft: Finally, a first-round wide receiver
Whether it’s Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, or another quarterback throwing passes for the Green Bay Packers next season, they will need more help on offense.
Rookie wide receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs have shown a lot of potential in year one. Could the Packers complete their wide receiver rebuild by adding another pass catcher in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft?
Green Bay didn’t add a first-round receiver in this year’s draft, but came close. The team traded up for Watson, selecting him 34th overall, only two picks outside of the first round.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports believes the Packers could add a first-round receiver next year, and that’s the direction he goes in his latest 2023 mock draft.
With the 14th overall pick in Trapasso’s mock draft, the Packers select USC wide receiver Jordan Addison.
“Addison is an ultra-shifty, super-reliable target who can play inside or outside for Green Bay for years to come,” writes Trapasso.
His ability to play inside could be just what Green Bay’s offense needs.
Starting slot receiver Randall Cobb becomes a free agent in the spring, and Green Bay released Amari Rodgers earlier this month. The team could need a new slot receiver in 2023.
But no matter where Addison would line up for the Packers, he could make an impact.
Last season, Addison put up incredible numbers, catching 100 passes for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is off to a good start in 2022, too, with 51 receptions for 765 yards and eight touchdowns.
Imagine a wide receiver trio of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jordan Addison going into 2023. Could it be the next Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones trio? OK — a little early for that, but it could be an excellent wide receiver corps.
Add in Allen Lazard (if re-signed) and Samori Toure, and the Packers could have an excellent receiving corps.
