The Green Bay Packers shocked the world when they drafted quarterback Jordan Love in the first round two years ago.

Could they do it again in 2023?

With uncertainty over Aaron Rodgers’ future and the Packers having to make a choice on Love’s fifth-year option, would they consider drafting another quarterback in the opening round?

Maybe we shouldn’t rule it out.

In a recent mock draft by Kent Platte of Pro Football Network, the Packers land Kentucky quarterback Will Levis with the 12th overall pick next spring.

In the article, Platte writes that the team is “facing a crucial crossroad coming into the 2023 season.”

That’s absolutely true.

For starters, there is the question of Aaron Rodgers’ future. Will he play in 2023?

There are a lot of steps to this. Does Rodgers want to return? And, if so, does he want to play in Green Bay? Do the Packers want him back or would they prefer to start Jordan Love? Would a trade elsewhere even be possible?

Even if Rodgers retires, the next question is Jordan Love’s future. Have the Packers seen enough to believe he can be their new QB1?

If the answer is no and Rodgers isn’t back in 2023, drafting a quarterback could make sense in the first round.

That’s why the idea shouldn’t be ruled out. After all, GM Brian Gutekunst picked a quarterback when nobody expected him to, so we shouldn’t assume he won’t do it again.

That said, should it be the expectation? Probably not.

There’s a chance Rodgers is back next year. He’s under contract. And even if he decides to retire, Love would likely get an opportunity in 2023, regardless of whether the Packers pick up his fifth-year option.

So, should we expect Green Bay to draft a QB? No. But could they? Absolutely.

Do you think they should draft a quarterback in 2023?
