As the Green Bay Packers have been a regular playoff team in recent years, they also have several players on big contracts.

It has led to some challenges with the salary cap recently, with the Packers needing to make various moves to get under the cap.

In 2023, there will again be many players with big cap hits. Let’s look at the top three.

Note: All salary cap numbers in this article are according to Spotrac.

1. Aaron Rodgers – $31.62 million

After signing a contract extension in the offseason, Aaron Rodgers is due a massive cap hit in 2023.

There is some uncertainty over his future. If Rodgers doesn’t want to return in 2023, the Packers will have to take on a huge dead cap hit.

Whether he’s on the team or not over the next couple of years, Rodgers will have a huge cap hit for the Packers.

2. David Bakhtiari – $29.07 million

When David Bakhtiari has played this season, he has been close to his All-Pro best.

Bakhtiari has been in and out of the lineup due to injury, so it’s unclear how many games he will be able to play next season.

Releasing Bakhtiari might not be an option if the Packers wanted to move on. They would still have to take on a dead cap hit of $23.13 million.

A contract restructure could be a way of creating some cap space, but the best option might just be to leave the contract as it is.

It would be easier to get out of the contract after the 2023 season.

3. Kenny Clark – $23.97 million

The Packers’ third-biggest cap hit in 2023 goes to Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kenny Clark.

Clark is one of the best players at his position, so it’s understandable why Green Bay gave him a huge new deal.

The Pro Bowler will remain a key part of Green Bay’s defense in the coming seasons, so we shouldn’t expect many changes to this contract, unless there is a restructure in the future.
