On their bye week, the Green Bay Packers could only sit back and watch on Sunday afternoon, hoping for the best.

The Packers know they will need to win out to have a realistic chance of making the postseason, but they also require some help. While they couldn’t be eliminated from contention in Week 14, they could’ve been pushed further away from the playoff teams had results gone a certain way.

However, in need of some help, the Packers got exactly that.

Importantly, some of the teams above Green Bay in the NFC standings lost. More help is required, but it’s a start. Let’s look at the updated standings in the NFC after the Sunday afternoon games.

NFC standings Week 14: Packers get some help on bye

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (12-1)
  2. Minnesota Vikings (10-3)
  3. San Francisco 49ers (9-4)
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7)
  5. Dallas Cowboys (10-3)
  6. Washington Commanders (7-5-1)
  7. New York Giants (7-5-1)
  8. Seattle Seahawks (7-6)
  9. Detroit Lions (6-7)
  10. Green Bay Packers (5-8)
  11. Carolina Panthers (5-8)
  12. Atlanta Falcons (5-8)
  13. Arizona Cardinals (4-8)
  14. New Orleans Saints (4-9)
  15. Los Angeles Rams (4-9)
  16. Chicago Bears (3-10)

Making the postseason remains unlikely for Matt LaFleur’s team with only four weeks to go. However, the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks missed the chance to put an eighth victory on the board on Sunday afternoon.

The Giants play the Washington Commanders next week. Both teams can’t win. Assuming they don’t tie again, one of those teams has to lose, which means the Packers could pull a game closer with a victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

New York also has to play the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles before the end of the regular season.

The Commanders have games against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys to come.

The Seahawks were stunned by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. It doesn’t get any easier, with games against the 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Jets to come.

The Detroit Lions moved a game ahead of the Packers with a win today, but that doesn’t change much for Green Bay. The Packers need to win out anyway, and that would include a Week 18 matchup with the Lions at Lambeau Field.
