Packers defense has stepped up in past month

Defense wins championships.

Joe Barry’s unit has received plenty of criticism this season after regularly falling short of expectations. But they deserve a ton of credit for their performances during the team’s current four-game winning run.

During this stretch, Green Bay has allowed only 17 points per game.

Quarterbacks have thrown for a combined 937 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions with a passer rating of 71.15. That’s a lower passer rating than Zach Wilson’s.

Green Bay’s run defense has also held up during this run, allowing a respectable 102.8 rushing yards per game.

The best part is that the Packers are forcing turnovers. Over the past four games, they have made nine interceptions and forced three fumbles.

Green Bay’s turnover differential is +9 over the past four weeks. That’ll do.

The big question for this defense is how they will perform against great offenses on the road. They made a slow start against the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Day, allowing 20 first-half points. But they responded brilliantly, shutting out the Dolphins in the final two quarters.

They will need another strong defensive performance against the fourth-ranked Lions offense this week. Pass that test, and Green Bay’s defense will be ready to lead a deep playoff run.
