The Green Bay Packers made significant changes at the wide receiver position a year ago.

After trading Davante Adams and losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown in free agency, the Packers drafted Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure, and signed Sammy Watkins.

Could more wide receiver moves be on the way this spring?

2022 season review

Christian Watson dropped what would’ve been a 75-yard touchdown on the very first play on offense for the Packers in 2022. It led to a slow start for the second-round pick, who battled injuries and drops early on.

However, his three-touchdown performance against the Dallas Cowboys proved to be a turning point. By the end of the year, Watson had shown star potential and looks like one of the best young wide receivers in the NFL.

He caught 41 passes for 611 yards and seven touchdowns, finishing second on the team in receiving yards and first in receiving touchdowns.

Romeo Doubs made a fast start but lost momentum after suffering an injury in midseason. Unfortunately, he was inconsistent after returning. But Doubs showed a ton of promise.

While Watson and Doubs showed potential, the Packers took a predictable step back at wide receiver, which was to be expected after trading an All-Pro in Davante Adams.

Signing Sammy Watkins didn’t work out. He was released before the end of the season. The Packers also moved on from second-year receiver Amari Rodgers.

What’s next in 2023?

A year ago, Green Bay lost three key receivers either via trade or free agency. This spring, Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard are free agents.

It means possibly entering 2023 with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs as the top two wide receivers.

But if they lose Cobb and Lazard, will they add a veteran in free agency or turn to the draft in April?
