3 Packers free agents who could follow Aaron Rodgers to new team
2. Allen Lazard, WR
In recent seasons, Allen Lazard has been one of Aaron Rodgers’ most trusted targets.
Lazard, a former undrafted free agent, played only one game for the Packers in 2018 but got an opportunity early in the 2019 season. Catching four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Packers’ victory over the Detroit Lions, Lazard’s performance stood out.
It led to a gradual increase in opportunities and, by season’s end, Lazard had become one of Green Bay’s top pass-catchers.
Over the past four seasons, Lazard has made 168 receptions for 2,229 yards and 20 touchdowns, often stepping up at important moments in games.
Lazard led the Packers in receiving this season following the departure of Davante Adams.
He helps the offense not just because of his receiving ability, but also his blocking. Lazard is more than just a willing blocker, he’s great at it. Take the win over the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Day as an example. Lazard blocked three Dolphins defenders on the same play.
Lazard’s ability as a blocker and complementary pass-catcher would help any Aaron Rodgers offense, no matter the team.
A free agent this spring, Lazard gets to choose his destination. Any team trading for Rodgers would be smart to sign Lazard to a multi-year deal.
