The Jordan Love era is underway for the Green Bay Packers. He will take over as the Packers’ starting quarterback in 2023.
Green Bay can now begin to think long-term. No longer is this a team in win-now mode, but rather one that can build over the next couple of seasons.
What five things must the Packers do to build a strong roster around Jordan Love?
5. Have patience
Even if Jordan Love becomes the Packers’ third straight Hall-of-Fame quarterback, it won’t happen immediately.
It’s important to have patience. The 2023 season will give Green Bay a great opportunity to evaluate Love, but he needs time to gain regular-season experience.
“We were talking earlier a little bit about the length of time it really takes a quarterback to go from playing well to winning in this league,” said Packers GM Brian Gutekunst at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
And Gutekunst is right.
The Packers went 6-10 in Aaron Rodgers’ first season as a starter. Peyton Manning went 3-13 in his first season. Not every quarterback starts their career like Patrick Mahomes, who was named NFL MVP in his first season as a starter.
Patience is required for Love. He will make mistakes in year one as a starter. But it’s by gaining this experience in real games that he can become a better player.
