But things were going so well?!

Hot take here: the Aaron Rodgers' Jets drama has lost its luster. It was fun for a while – and I don't blame any Packers fan for thinking it still is – but there's something just kinda ... pathetic? ... about the most dysfunctional team in professional football playing dumb games with one of the NFL's most interesting characters.

In a way, they're an equally perfect and uninteresting match.

At least, they were. According to a new report from The Athletic's NFL senior reporter Dianna Russini, the Jets and Rodgers may be so much closer to a nasty breakup than any of us thought.

Essentially, they're planning one last long weekend in hopes of rekindling some of the magic while secretly knowing they're just going to bicker most of the time and come home early.

Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are probably breaking up soon, according to Dianna Russini

According to Russini, the Packers could bench Rodgers, place him on injured reserve, or even cut him in the next few weeks.

Ohhhhh noooooo. I hate when the consequences of my own actions get in the way. Tough look for the Jets and for Rodgers, who both definitely deserve so much better than this. It pains me to see such an all-time great quarterback and such an all-time great organization flounder like this, especially when immortality was within their grasp. This will definitely, totally, absolutely go down as one of the NFL's biggest What Ifs; everyone was so excited to see both of them succeed.

Although, to be honest, we should probably thank the Jets. For a moment there, I thought they had run out of ways to be laughed at just short of the start of the playoffs. But it sounds like they got back in the lab and found a way to create even more comically stupid chaos, which is a welcome gift this holiday season. We all owe them a major debt of gratitude.
