Aaron Rodgers' Vikings dream ends in embarrassing fashion (and Packers fans will love it)

What a shame!

You know it's a new day in the NFL when there's Aaron Rodgers drama that is ... actually fun? Maybe even slightly enjoyable?

You know the backstory. Hell, you've lived the backstory. No one knows the singular sensation (some call it "rage") of dealing with an Aaron Rodgers decision quite like you do. Which is why today is for you. No one deserves to read the next 350 words quite like you do, so sit back, pour yourself a glass of literally anything, and enjoy.

Aaron Rodgers wanted to play on the Vikings. I doubt he'll ever come out and truthfully admit that – that's not really his M.O. – but we all know it. It was reported by enough legitimate sources to be believable. It even made sense! With Sam Darnold off to Seattle, and McCarthy still recovering from knee surgery, you didn't even need to squint that hard to see the fit. The Vikings apparently thought about it, too. But then, for the first time in Rodgers' NFL career, something happened: someone told him no.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Minnesota thought it'd be best if they just stayed as friends.

Aaron Rodgers just got flat-out rejected by the Vikings, and it's hilarious

"I am told the Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls involving their young quarterback, JJ McCarthy," he said. "Telling teams they are moving forward with McCarthy as their quarterback. Minnesota's still interested in adding a veteran, whether through free agency or a trade. But I am told they are not pursuing Aaron Rodgers. JJ McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1. Now for Aaron Rodgers, his opportunities now center on the Steelers and the Giants."

If you can believe it, this report was followed – almost immediately – by contradicting reports saying no firm decision had been made yet. The latter was reported by Dianni Russini, who also happened to have all the juicy details about how disastrous Rodgers' time with the Jets was, but that's probably just a coincidence. I don't doubt that Russini's accurately reporting what she's hearing – she's as dialed-in as any NFL reporter – but the timing of it is, objectively, hilarious. Guess he didn't have a whole lot going on today.

Pour one out for Aaron Rodgers' Vikings career; we were robbed of at least three memes. But all's well that ends well, and I can't think of a better ending to the Rodgers-Vikings saga than this. Simply delicious.
