Jaire Alexander's future remains under a cloud. The Green Bay Packers would like to move on from the veteran cornerback after some injury-ravaged seasons of late, but no willing suitor has come forward as yet.
The latest revelation from Adam Schefter of ESPN provided fans with crystal-clear clarity about the situation.
Alexander is a top-level performer when healthy. Keeping him fit and firing on all cylinders has been the biggest complication, which led to speculation around the Packers looking to cut their losses. Nothing has been confirmed as yet, with general manager Brian Gutekunst keeping all options on the table to avoid losing any more leverage.
Packers more likely to release Jaire Alexander than find a trade partner
Schefter provided some tidbits on Alexander's precarious situation with the Packers during an appearance on ESPN Milwaukee. The senior insider heard there was one team potentially interested in acquiring him via trade. But after discussions during the annual league meetings, he believes there's a greater chance Green Bay would release the former first-round pick rather than trade him.
"My guess is, they're not going to like it, but I would guess they are more likely to release him than trade him. But it certainly seems like they are holding out hope that they are going to be able to find a trade partner because they would have moved off him by now and they haven't. So they'll continue to look. Maybe they'll find something. I hear one team had expressed an interest, but there's more chance of releasing him."Adam Schefter

This won't exactly be breaking news to Packers fans. They've long held a belief that Alexander would become a cap casualty at some stage. That seems likelier than ever with only a few short weeks remaining until the 2025 NFL Draft.
If, or when, Alexander hits the open market, that's when a robust market will arrive. Teams reluctant to part ways with draft capital and take on his contract will only be too happy to sign him for a reduced rate. This also gives the Louisville graduate a chance to pick his next destination, preferably on a team with legitimate chances of contending during the 2025 season.
This represents a sad end to a once-promising tenure in Green Bay for Alexander. He looked like a potential superstar once upon a time. Injuries significantly derailed his momentum, and all signs now point to an imminent departure ahead of time.
A tipping point between Alexander and the Packers is coming soon. Unless there's a drastic shift or another team becomes particularly desperate, he'll be released.
Any hope of a reprieve, especially on his current salary, has almost completely evaporated.
