Whether Green Bay Packers star Jordan Love is the cream of the quarterback crop in his division is up for debate. However, everyone can agree that Minnesota Vikings newcomer Kyler Murray is closer to the bottom of the hierarchy than the top — or so we thought.
There appears to be a good deal of external optimism surrounding Murray's arrival in Minnesota, perhaps too much, though. ESPN's Bart Scott went to bat for the Vikings' high-profile offseason free-agent addition during a recent appearance on Get Up, which drew Packers fans' attention.
Scott boldly went on the record to say he thinks Murray has a chance to establish himself as the NFC North's premier signal-caller in 2026.
"At the end of the season, I think we may say that Kyle Murray is the most talented quarterback [in the NFC North]," Scott stated.
Bart Scott gives Packers QB Jordan Love extra motivation with edgy Kyler Murray take
Talk about a hot take. Surely, this won't rile up Love stans, right? It's not like he's been among the winningest and most efficient passers in the NFL since becoming the Packers' full-time starter in 2023.
Lest we forget, this is a "what have you done for me lately?" league. Murray didn't accomplish much in his last four seasons as a member of the Arizona Cardinals, to put it mildly. He posted a 16-25 record and a subpar 90.3 passer rating (the league average in 2025 was 91.4) during that stretch.
The only things that have changed about Murray are his situation, age and wear and tear; he's still the same player we saw in Arizona. Athleticism and arm talent have never been a question for him. Yet, the durability concerns and limitations of the two-time Pro Bowler due to his size (or lack thereof) haven't gone away.
Murray doesn't really want to push the ball downfield and struggles to throw over the middle because of his height. The ex-Cardinal also hasn't always been willing to lean into the dual-threat skill set that makes him so dangerous. Of course, none of this is to say that Love is perfect, but at least he doesn't restrict the Packers' game plan.
Ask 10 people who they think the best quarterback in the NFC North is, and you'll probably get 10 different answers. Love, the Chicago Bears' Caleb Williams and Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions all have legitimate claims for the No. 1 spot. Murray must stop the regression before leapfrogging his new rivals.
