The Green Bay Packers' defense may catch another huge break in Week 7.
They benefitted from dodging Joe Burrow in last week's victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, and all signs point toward another backup quarterback starting against them on Sunday.
Green Bay heads west for a date with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7, and it's looking increasingly likely that Kyler Murray will sit this one out. According to Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official website, Murray was working with the practice-squad pass-catchers during Thursday's practice.
It sure looks like Packers will avoid Kyler Murray in matchup vs. Cardinals in Week 7
"Trending toward another start for Jacoby Brissett," Mike Garafolo of NFL Network noted.
Murray is battling a foot injury that kept him out of the Cardinals' loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week. Brissett stepped in, throwing for 320 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Brissett is a capable backup, but the Packers will become heavy favorites if Murray misses another game.
Green Bay's defense ranks No. 5 in the league for yards allowed per game. Jeff Hafley's unit is No. 1 against the run (don't tell Jerry Jones), which places significant pressure on opposing quarterbacks to win through the air.
The Packers have also made fast starts this season, opening up double-digit leads in all five contests. They threw away two of them, but Green Bay can jump out to big leads, making it even more challenging for a backup quarterback.
While Arizona went 2-3 in Murray's five starts this season, he is a game-changer.
Brissett is a talented backup, but he is 19-35 in career starts, averaging just over one touchdown pass and 0.47 interceptions per game.
It's also unclear whether Arizona's star second-year receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will be available. He remains in the concussion protocol.
The Packers would expect to win this game even with Murray starting for Arizona, but if he's out, it becomes a must-win. Matt LaFleur's team has already thrown away strong positions in games against the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys. If Murray sits, there is no excuse not to leave Arizona with a 4-1-1 record.
