The Green Bay Packers made it happen. General manager Brian Gutekunst said they were working on an extension with star offensive lineman Zach Tom, and they came to an agreement on a four-year deal worth $88 million ahead of training camp.

Tom only had a year remaining on his rookie contract, but this massive new deal ensures he will stay in Green Bay through the 2029 season.

It's great news for the Packers, but how does Tom's lucrative new deal impact others on the roster?

Jordan Love is among the biggest winners of Zach Tom's new deal, but it will impact others

Winner: Zach Tom

OK, we'll get the obvious one out of the way. Tom not only has 88 million reasons to love this deal, but it also ensures he has the long-term security he wanted.

Loser: Rasheed Walker

Tom wasn't the only Packers tackle with an expiring contract. Rasheed Walker is also slated to hit free agency next offseason, but this move all but confirms his exit. It's hard to envision the Packers finding room for two big-money tackle contracts, especially with several other important players needing new deals, like Quay Walker, Christian Watson, and Devonte Wyatt.

Walker is under pressure for the starting left tackle job and is likely entering his final season in Green Bay. Could the Packers trade him before then?

Winner: Jordan Love

According to Pro Football Focus, Tom has allowed seven sacks and eight quarterback hits on 1,599 pass-block snaps over the past three seasons. In a division featuring Aidan Hutchinson, it must feel good to know Tom is sticking around for the next five years.

The best part is he can play across the offensive line. There's no reason to move Tom from right tackle, where he's playing at a Pro Bowl level, but he can slide inside or even kick out to left tackle if needed. That's a huge win for Love.

Loser: Sean Rhyan

Tom's extension doesn't directly impact Sean Rhyan, but it could ultimately hurt his chances of sticking around next offseason.

Rhyan's rookie deal is up next spring, and with Tom locking down the right tackle spot, rookie Anthony Belton may move inside to guard. That puts more pressure on Rhyan, who must fend off competition from two recent draft picks. Jordan Morgan and Belton will find starting jobs at some point, even if it's in 2026, potentially allowing the Packers to move on from Rhyan when his rookie deal expires.

Winner: Jordan Morgan

Matt LaFleur made it clear that Morgan will compete for the left tackle job this summer. Even if he spends another season on the bench, Morgan could fill one of two vacancies along the offensive line in 2026. If Walker or Rhyan depart in free agency (which is more likely after Tom's extension), Morgan will have a clear path to a starting job.

Morgan may secure a starting job as early as this summer. Tom's extension all but ensures it will happen at some point, either this year or next.
