For a quarterback supposed to finally save the Chicago Bears, Caleb Williams continues to repeat the same mistakes of his predecessors.
Just like how mocking Aaron Rodgers' championship belt never ended well for defensive players, taking shots at the Green Bay Packers almost always comes back to haunt Bears players. Williams took his opportunity at the Fanatics Fest this week.
He had two words for Packers fans.
"They suck," said the Bears' second-year quarterback.
He then elaborated: "After we won at Lambeau, 1-0 at Lambeau, we tried to do a Lambeau Leap. We tried to jump in the crowd where our fans were. They start throwing everything at you. They push you off."
Williams enjoyed mentioning his 1-0 record at Lambeau Field while seemingly forgetting the circumstances of that game. Didn't Jordan Love and Christian Watson exit early due to injuries? Didn't Josh Jacobs only have six carries to rest him for the playoffs? Didn't it take Chicago a last-second field goal to beat Green Bay's backup quarterback?
Interesting.
So, Packers fans "suck" because they didn't want Williams to do a Lambeau Leap? Again, interesting. He should've learned that lesson from Amon-Ra St. Brown, who once attempted the same thing.
Caleb Williams needs to learn an important lesson from Aaron Rodgers about trashing the Packers
Williams isn't the first Bears player (or coach) to take a shot at the Packers, and he won't be the last.
The USC product is an Aaron Rodgers fan, but maybe he should learn something from the four-time MVP.
"What does every coach that signs with the Bears say? 'We've got to beat the Packers, right?' Packers don't give a s---," Rodgers told the YNK podcast last month.
He's right.
Bears coaches and players love to talk about the Packers, and Williams is the latest to fall into the same predictable trap as many who played before him. The result? We know how it will end.
It took injuries to Love, Watson, and Romeo Doubs, along with the Packers pulling starters like Jacobs due to already clinching a playoff spot, for the Bears to just about secure a win at Lambeau Field. They celebrated like they had won the Super Bowl.
Williams' Bears have since "won" the offseason (again) and continue to talk trash. Unfortunately, Jordan Love has never lost a game against the Bears that he has started and finished.
That trend will continue in 2025.
