After spending the entire first day of the NFL's legal tampering period without bringing in an outside free agent, the Green Bay Packers began Day 2 by addressing a major need on defense.
Agreeing to terms with former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, the Packers found themselves a bargain on the outside. At the same time, Green Bay might have just sealed the fate of another Packers cornerback, but that's another story altogether.
In the wake of signing St-Juste, though, we were able to speak with Chargers expert, Jason Reed of Bolt Beat, and he offered some insight on what the Packers are getting:
"Benjamin St-Juste went from being a flier signing last offseason to one of the most impactful cornerbacks in the Chargers' secondary. Much like he did the year prior with Kristian Fulton, now-former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter worked his magic and put St-Juste in a position to play the best ball of his career."
Looking back at his first four years, St-Juste really did put on the best year of tape of his pro career.
Green Bay Packers fans are hoping Benjamin St-Juste continues his ascension
Over his first four seasons in the league with the Washington Commanders/Football Team, St-Juste was more of a liability than anything. His performance was up and down, all across the board.
He finished two seasons allowing an opposing passer rating over 100.0, while two others hovered right around 87.0. Two seasons saw him allow over 8.0 yards per target, while two others hovered around 7.0.
Washington never knew what they were going to get out of him, but then, the Chargers came calling.
In 2025, St-Juste allowed an opposing quarterback rating of just 68.3 in 16 games (a career-best). He only gave up a single touchdown in coverage and allowed just 5.7 yards per target (both also career bests).
The turnaround, from when he was in Washington, is something worth holding on to if you're a Packers fan. Any Commanders fan would tell you, "good luck with him," and understandably so. However, Packers fans have a whole lot more reason for optimism after watching his breakout in 2025.
Hopefully, St-Juste is only the start as the Packers begin to add and subtract on this defensive unit throughout the offseason. Green Bay still has needs elsewhere, obviously, and has to try to keep up the momentum on that side of the ball after watching Jeff Hafley depart.
