Christian Watson and Matthew Golden already look like the next all-time Packers WR duo

Javon Walker and Donald Driver, Antonio Freeman and Robert Brooks, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Those names come to mind when you think of the Green Bay Packers' greatest wide receiver duos, and perhaps now Christian Watson and Matthew Golden.

It might feel premature to put Watson and Golden in first-class company, but they've been that good this season. Their high-level efficiency and production, specifically downfield, have been a major catalyst for the Packers' offense. Watching them flourish together has been fun, unless you're an opposing defensive back, and the results are even more impressive.

At this rate, Watson and Golden could be entering the conversation for Green Bay's best WR combo ever — if they haven't already.

Together, Christian Watson and Matthew Golden are entering exclusive Packers company

Watson and Golden have arguably been the NFL's top receiver tandem in 2026. Period. End of story.

In fact, Golden and Watson's 1,039 receiving yards combined lead all WR pairings so far this year. Thanks to them, the Packers are the only team with two 500-plus-yard wideouts through six weeks. They've formed a prolific one-two punch that, frankly, can go pound-for-pound with Driver/Walker, Freeman/Brooks and Nelson/Cobb.

Don't believe us? Well, the numbers don't lie. Their output after six games exceeds Brooks and Freeman's hot start in 1997 and Nelson and Cobb's in 2014, but is just one yard shy of Driver/Walker (h/t BetMGM).

This isn't a Batman-and-Robin situation either; it's more like Captain America and Iron Man (for the Marvel nerds out there). Watson and Golden are each doing their fair share of damage in what's been a legitimate 1A-1A situation. The same doesn't hold true for other famous Packers pass-catching twosomes, namely Nelson and Cobb, where the former was the clear-cut preferred option.

A virtually nonexistent rushing attack has put significant onus on Golden and Watson, and they've delivered in spades. Both are benefiting tremendously from Green Bay's offseason consolidation of targets. The dynamic playmakers are peaking at the right time and enjoying true breakout campaigns in unison, yet somehow, there's still room for growth.

Somehow, the best from Matthew Golden and Christian Watson has yet to come

The only ones that have been able to stop Golden and Watson are ... themselves. Literally.

Golden has been charged with six of the Packers' league-high 20 drops, and Watson with three. They each failed to haul in what could've, and honestly should've, been long touchdowns in the club's primetime beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys. Their miscues have left a lot on the field, which is the only knock on either of them.

Otherwise, Golden and Watson are creating separation at a high clip, generating yards after the catch and winning at all three levels. Their explosiveness has been on full display, and they've formed strong connections with franchise quarterback Jordan Love.
