The Green Bay Packers have been linked to a trade for superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons, but what we all want to know is whether it'll actually happen. While the thought of the Dallas Cowboys dealing the three-time All-Pro once seemed impossible, contract extension talks between the two sides have gone stagnant.

Parsons has been holding in throughout training camp, but remains without a new deal as the season rapidly approaches. The tenth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has watched pass rushers Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt reset the market this offseason.

Although the franchise would certainly like to retain their best player, the longer the situation drags on, the more likely it is that he has played his last game in Dallas. Ian Rapoport recently labeled the Packers as the perfect trade destination for the four-time Pro Bowler.

Ed Werder cautioned the Cowboys about sending Parsons to a conference rival that is already prepared for contention.

Cowboys insider claims they should not send Micah Parsons to the Packers

Parsons has been among the best pass rushers since entering the NFL in 2021. Over the past four seasons, he has recorded 256 total tackles, 172 solo tackles, 63 tackles for loss, 52.5 sacks, 112 quarterback hits, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, nine passes defended, and one defensive touchdown.

He ranks fifth in the NFL in sacks over that span despite missing five games. Following Rapoport listing the Packers as a perfect match for a trade, Cowboys insider Ed Werder compared the potential move to Dallas kickstarting their 1990's dynasty by acquiring Charles Haley from the San Francisco 49ers. The Hall of Fame journalist tweeted:

"Trading Micah Parsons would be idiotic. Trading him the the Packers might be the equivalent of the 49ers trading Charles Haley to the Cowboys’ 90s dynasty teams - at the expense of SF. Double dumb."

The Cowboys won the Super Bowl -- and three titles in four years -- immediately after acquiring Haley. While the 49ers were able to capture one title in that span, they dropped back-to-back NFC Championship Games to Dallas in the Pro Football Hall of Famer's first two years with his new team.

San Francisco had won two championships in Haley's final four years with the franchise prior to the trade. The deal is often labeled as the final piece at building Dallas' dynasty. The five-time Pro Bowler retired with the most Super Bowl titles in NFL history, however, Tom Brady has since surpassed his mark.

Packers fans are hopeful that, if they are able to land Parsons, they will replicate the success the Cowboys had when they acquired Haley. Green Bay ranked tied for eighth in the NFL with 45 sacks last season, however, Rashan Gary -- who finished with 7.5 sacks -- was the only player on the roster with 5.0 sacks. Adding a true superstar to the defensive line could take the sixth-ranked scoring defense to a new level.
