Just one year after signing cornerback Nate Hobbs from the Las Vegas Raiders, speculation of a potential Green Bay Packers departure has already begun.
With no picks in the first round of this year's (or next year's) draft, the Packers have a couple of big decisions to make, one of which is how the cornerback room will look when Week 1 kicks off.
In an effort to fix their growing need at the cornerback position, the Packers signed Hobbs to a four-year deal worth $48 million during the 2025 offseason. Unfortunately, he never seemed to overcome injuries sustained before the season. There were only six games in which he played more than 35 percent of snaps, forcing the Packers to rely solely on Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon at the position.
ESPN lists Green Bay Packers CB Nate Hobbs as a potential trade candidate
While Hobbs has only been on the team for a single season, his lack of availability has landed him on a list of the top 15 trade candidates from ESPN's Dan Graziano and Ben Solak, which includes players like Brian Thomas Jr., A.J. Brown, and Minkah Fitzpatrick. The 26-year-old corner could find himself on a new team come September, with a contract that makes him the 24th-highest paid player at the position.
"Green Bay wasn't the only team interested in Hobbs during free agency last year," explains Graziano, listing Miami and Buffalo as possible destinations. "If there's a slot corner market out there, it might make sense for the Packers to see what they can get."
Even if a team is willing to take a chance on Hobbs, it seems unlikely the Packers will move on from the fifth-year player.
Despite his injuries, Hobbs played the third-most snaps among Green Bay's corners in 2025. With a productive offseason, he could still easily cement himself as a starting-caliber defender within the barren cornerback room.
Unless the team is confident that it can find a reasonable replacement using whichever late-round pick Hobbs would be swapped for, fans should expect the former Raider to stay in Green Bay through 2026.
