The 2026 NFL Draft has come and gone, and the Green Bay Packers opted not to draft a quarterback at any point during the event. Considering they have Jordan Love as their starter, it's not a surprise they didn't spend an early pick on a signal-caller, but after losing Malik Willis to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, not drafting one later on is surprising.

Jordan Reid of ESPN shared that view, as the draft analyst picked the Packers as the team that should have addressed the quarterback position.

He pointed out that Green Bay is currently rolling with Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord as the backups behind Love, and that's obviously not a great situation to be in.

"The Packers usually take a QB during the late rounds, so I'm surprised they didn't select one considering this was a draft to find a long-term backup. But with only six picks, they elected not to add to their QB room that isn't exactly secure at the backup spots (Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord) after losing Malik Willis in free agency."

ESPN's Jordan Reid says Packers shouldn't have ignored QB during draft

Reid noted that the Packers "usually take a QB during the late rounds," but they didn't do so last year, likely because of their comfort level with Willis as the backup. Now that Willis is gone, however, it is rather puzzling that Green Bay passed on addressing the position, especially with Love missing four games over the past two years.

The Packers did sign Kyron Drones in undrafted free agency, but if he's playing meaningful snaps for the team this year, that's not a good sign. All in all, it's hard to disagree with Reid here. If Love has to miss an extended period of time for whatever reason, Ridder or McCord stepping in isn't a great situation to be in.

Ridder hasn't taken a regular-season snap since 2024, when he was with the Las Vegas Raiders, and McCord was a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in last year's draft and hasn't played at all. Not ideal.

Then again, the Packers clearly didn't see a quarterback in those later rounds that impressed them, and opted to use those picks on other positions. Was that the right call? We'll have to wait and see what happens.
