The Green Bay Packers went 11-6 last season, and lost to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. With a talented young core still intact, the Packers should be viewed as contenders entering the 2025 season. However, Green Bay has instead been met with doubt and disrespect all offseason.
Recently, an ESPN analyst predicted the Packers would miss the playoffs entirely. Now, a different analyst, Seth Walder, is highlighting the projections of ESPN’s Football Power Index, detailing which teams have the best odds to win the Super Bowl next season. Despite Green Bay’s promise, the team has just a 3.5% chance to win it all.
That percentage ranks the Packers 11th in the NFL. Obviously, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are atop the list, and the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are right after. However, teams like the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers also sit in front of Green Bay with better odds.
Packers completely overlooked in latest ESPN playoff predictions
Beyond winning the Super Bowl, Walder also looked at the favorites in the NFC North. In what’s expected to be a competitive division, the Detroit Lions are the favorite to win with a 41% shot, but the Packers are second at 25%.
Walder doesn’t go in depth on why the model favors some teams more than others, but ultimately, it’s just a projection. This time last year, the San Francisco 49ers had the best chance to win Super Bowl 59 at 16%. They ultimately went 6-11, missing the playoffs entirely. The Eagles, on the other hand, were ranked sixth with an 8% chance.
Projections are projections, but the NFL has proven to be an unpredictable league. Ultimately, everything will be decided by what happens between the white lines. That’s when the Packers will be able to make everyone look foolish for doubting them.
