Everything to know about Jordan Love, Jaire Alexander, Evan Williams injuries
The Green Bay Packers won the game but left Week 8 with several injury concerns to key players.
Quarterback Jordan Love couldn't finish the contest due to a groin injury, nor could rookie safety Evan Williams after suffering a hamstring issue. Star cornerback Jaire Alexander appeared to land awkwardly on one of the game's final plays, adding more concern in the secondary.
Fortunately, the Packers have avoided significant injury concerns throughout the season, and the early signs are promising after Week 8.
Latest injury updates on Packers' injured stars after Week 8 win
Jordan Love
The Packers need a healthy Love as they enter tough games against the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers. Love had further tests on Monday, including an MRI, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that he suffered a strained groin that is "nothing major."
It's still unclear whether Love will play against the Lions in Week 9, but he avoided a long-term injury.
Matt LaFleur could have to make a tough decision on Love's status this week as the Packers enter their bye after the Lions game. LaFleur said the bye week won't factor into their thinking.
"If he can go, he'll go," said LaFleur. "We'll see where he's at by the end of the week, but if we feel like he can't protect himself, we certainly wouldn't put him in that position."
Evan Williams
Green Bay's defense struggled to cope with Williams' absence after he suffered a hamstring injury, which reflects how well he has played. Hamstring issues are tough, but the Packers got good news on Monday.
According to Cheesehead TV's Aaron Nagler, Williams "should be fine" and has a good chance to play against the Lions. That's a huge relief for the Packers, who struggled defensively without him, as LaFleur alluded to.
"I think when Evan went out, that set off a chain reaction in the backend," said LaFleur. "Jaire's didn't happen until right at the end of the game. It's the mentality of next man up. We feel confident in that room."
Jaire Alexander
Make it three-for-three on good news. Alexander had tests on his knee after suffering an injury late in the game, but he also avoided a serious problem. ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports that tests showed no significant concerns about Alexander's knee, adding that the team will "monitor his soreness throughout the week."
Again, it sounds like the Packers dodged disaster.
It's unclear whether Alexander will play against the Lions this week, but he avoided a significant injury and shouldn't miss much time.
Josh Jacobs
Josh Jacobs left the field a little gingerly late in the fourth quarter, which is hardly surprising after carrying the Packers' offense on his back. As expected, he is fine.
According to Sports Illustrated's Bill Huber, there are "no concerns" for Jacobs' status in Week 9 against the Lions. And the Packers will need him.
