Failed Packers draft pick may not make it out of another training camp

It's not looking great.

This is right about the time during the NFL calendar when everyone starts Remembering Guys. It's one of the internet's most worn-out hobbies – someone (usually some Fantasy Football bot) tweets out a prompt asking everyone to remember a guy, and then everyone QTs it with the same six names. (Matt Flynn!)

But today, we actually do have A Guy to ask if you remember, though for an admittedly-very-depressing reason.

Remember Josiah Deguara? The same Josiah Deguara that the Packers drafted in the third round only a few years ago? It's been a rough go for Deguara since leaving the Packers in 2023, and now it certainly seems like the odds of him continuing his NFL career this season are ... slim.

Josiah Deguara may already be out of options in the NFL

Things obviously didn't work out for Deguara in Green Bay – the tight end only played in two games his rookie year after suffering a serious knee injury, and his best season with the team came in 2021 (25 catches, 245 yards, two touchdowns). After two final underwhelming seasons with the team, he moved on to Jacksonville. There, things didn't get a whole lot better: in 15 games (zero starts), Deguara only caught three balls for 14 yards; he was basically just a part-time special teams guy with the Jaguars.

Then, this offseason, Deguara found himself on his third NFL roster in six years after signing a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. The problem? Arizona has arguably the deepest tight end room in football. Trey McBride is obviously the headliner there, but both Tip Reiman and Elijah Higgins are good at what they do. That doesn't leave a lot of room for a sixth-year journeyman, and Deguara's going to have to be a special teams star if he wants to make it through training camp.

So, yeah. Not the most heart-warming round of Let's Remember A Guy. But for all six of you who were wondering what's up with Josiah Deguara, now you know. And now you have a reason to pay attention to the Arizona Cardinals this year!
