First Packers injury report for Week 7 provides important update on Dontayvion Wicks
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said they "absolutely" dodged a disaster with Dontayvion Wicks' shoulder injury.
Wicks was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday, only three days after suffering the injury that knocked him out of the game against the Arizona Cardinals. Participating in practice this early in the week is an encouraging sign ahead of a huge matchup against the Houston Texans in Week 7.
Three players didn't practice on Wednesday: guard Elgton Jenkins and defensive linemen Colby Wooden and Devonte Wyatt. Jenkins' status is something to monitor throughout the week, while Wyatt has missed the past two games due to an ankle injury and hasn't yet returned to practice.
Here is the Packers' first injury report for Week 7:
Player | Position | Injury | Wednesday |
---|---|---|---|
Jaire Alexander | CB | Groin | LP |
Kenny Clark | DT | Toe | LP |
Elgton Jenkins | G/T | Knee | DNP |
Tucker Kraft | TE | Groin | LP |
Josh Myers | C | Neck | LP |
Jayden Reed | WR | Ankle | LP |
Christian Watson | WR | Ankle | LP |
Dontayvion Wicks | WR | Shoulder | LP |
Colby Wooden | DL | Knee | DNP |
Devonte Wyatt | DL | Ankle | DNP |
Packers are getting healthier ahead of huge showdown with Texans in Week 7
Green Bay is getting healthier. The Packers have four fewer players on the injury report from last week, barring any new additions to the injury report later in the week.
Safety Zayne Anderson, linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, defensive lineman Jonathan Ford, guard Jordan Morgan, defensive lineman Arron Mosby, right tackle Zach Tom, cornerback Carrington Valentine, and left tackle Rasheed Walker are no longer on the injury report.
The new additions are Josh Myers, Jayden Reed, Wicks, and Wooden.
The Packers officially have a new kicker after releasing Brayden Narveson. Veteran Brandon McManus practiced with the team for the first time on Wednesday and will make his debut in Week 7.
Fortunately, almost the entire roster practiced on Wednesday, which is a good sign this early in the week. And it includes many of the same players from last week who played, like Jaire Alexander, Kenny Clark, and Tucker Kraft. Assuming they haven't suffered any setbacks, there's a good chance they will be ready to go in Week 7.
The Texans are dealing with several injuries. Wide receiver Nico Collins remains out, while talented rookie cornerback Kamari Lassiter is likely to miss this week's game. Houston has also lost defensive tackle Mario Edwards to suspension just one week after he put in a big performance against the New England Patriots.
It's still early in the week, and the Packers have had bad luck with suffering injuries during practice this season. But it seems they are trending in the right direction and getting healthier before the toughest part of the schedule, beginning this week against the Texans.
