Part of the fun of training camp is to see former members of the Green Bay Packers trying to prove themselves with other teams.
This is the first training camp that AJ Dillon hasn't been a member of the Packers, as he ended up signing with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles over the offseason.
Initially, things weren't looking so hot for the former Packers second-round pick, with many wondering if he would even make the Eagles roster. Perhaps that comment or the possibility of not making the roster lit a fire under Dillon, because he's been on fire early on in Eagles training camp.
Zach Berman of PHLY Sports posted on X that "A.J. Dillon is someone who's caught some attention from the coaching staff early on".
Has Dillon changed his narrative in Philadelphia?
Former Packers second-round pick AJ Dillon might have recaptured RB2 role with Eagles
The Packers selected Dillon in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he was a fan favorite from early on. Unfortunately, he never quite lived up to his draft billing, and even after a disappointing 2023, the team brought him back on an affordable one-year deal for 2024. Dillon was injured before the season even began, though, and it was clear this offseason that the two needed to part ways.
The Eagles signed Dillon to be a complementary back behind superstar Saquon Barkley, but just a few weeks ago, it didn't look as though that'd pan out. If he's catching the attention of the coaching staff now, though, perhaps that RB2 job can be as good as his when the summer wraps up and teams have to make decisions about who to keep and who to cut.
While it's unfortunate that Dillon never turned into the star the Packers were hoping he'd be, maybe he can revamp his career with a team known for getting the absolute best out of all of their players.
