The Green Bay Packers have made quite the headlines at the wide receiver position over the course of the offseason. The room lost Romeo Doubs to free agency, but Green Bay also extended both Jayden Reed and Christian Watson.
Meanwhile, another NFC contender has made some big moves of their own at the position. The Philadelphia Eagles dealt A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots in a move that everybody knew was going to happen. This gives DeVonta Smith a chance to shine in Philly, now, but buried down that Eagles depth chart is a familiar face to Packers fans.
A seventh-round pick back in 2022, Samori Toure spent a total of three years with the Packers before the two sides parted ways. Now, after a few stints elsewhere, Toure finds himself on the Eagles' roster as teams prepare for training camp next month.
The former Nebraska standout is going to have a hard time sticking around Philly, though, even after the Brown trade.
Former Packers WR Samori Toure will have a difficult path forward
The Eagles' depth chart has been in flux all offseason. Packers fans know this well, too, because of yet another offseason trade. Toure saw a familiar face get dealt to the Eagles when the Packers sent Dontayvion Wicks to Philadelphia in a trade back in April.
The Eagles not only have Smith and Wicks, but rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon at the top of the room. Philadelphia also signed Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore to come in and compete, with the former being far more likely to make the final roster.
Throw in Johnny Wilson and Darius Cooper, and the Eagles' wide receiver room is suddenly crowded. And, we haven't even covered all of them. Toure has a few more names to compete with at the bottom of the depth chart, but at this point, it is looking far more likely that he ends up being a practice squad candidate.
Toure once impressed Packers fans and even earned a little trust from former Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers. As a rookie, Toure caught his one and only NFL touchdown off the arm of Rodgers and in a game against the Buffalo Bills back in October of 2022.
Aside from that high point, Toure has been fighting for everything he's gotten to this point, making his rounds with the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints since his days with the Packers. Still hanging onto his NFL career, Toure will probably have to find his way to yet another team by the time this summer is over.
