Former Packers playmaker is still surprisingly unemployed as OTAs arrive

The Green Bay Packers still face cornerback uncertainty due to the Jaire Alexander situation, but one former star at the position surprisingly remains available.

Rasul Douglas quickly became an unexpected star in Green Bay after the team stole him from the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. He starts 28 games for the Packers, making an incredible 10 interceptions and 32 pass defenses, including two pick-sixes.

Xavier McKinney made the Packers look like geniuses for signing him after he made eight picks to earn first-team All-Pro honors last season.

Before his arrival in Green Bay, Douglas was the defense's trusted turnover machine.

But after two successful seasons with the Buffalo Bills, the 30-year-old cornerback remains available in free agency.

Rasul Douglas has generated interest, but don't expect a Packers reunion

Douglas is still a free agent, and although there are no signs that the Packers are considering a reunion, other teams have shown interest. The Miami Dolphins are reportedly among them, which makes sense, with Jalen Ramsey likely heading for the exit. Miami has already lost Kendall Fuller.

The Packers left the fanbase heartbroken by surprisingly trading Douglas to the Bills before the 2023 deadline. Green Bay had seemingly given up hope for the season as it sat with a 2-5 record — Jordan Love had other ideas, leading the team to the divisional round.

And the fans weren't alone. Douglas admitted that he hung up on Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst after finding out.

Douglas continued to make plays for Buffalo, with four interceptions (including a pick-six) across 23 starts.

However, he lacked the same consistency last season. Per Pro Football Reference, Douglas had his first interception-less campaign since 2020 while allowing a passer rating of 122.0 in his coverage.

But Douglas has proven he can play at a Pro Bowl level and make game-changing plays. It's surprising a team hasn't given him another shot.

With Alexander under contract in Green Bay (for now), there has been zero indication that a reunion with Douglas is a possibility. But a team should sign him. Even after a difficult season, it's surprising he remains available in free agency.
