Wow. The rumors about a potential Dontayvion Wicks trade wouldn't go away, and now it has happened.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Green Bay Packers are trading Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Per Rapoport, Wicks will sign a one-year extension worth $12.5 million, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season. Having already lost Romeo Doubs in free agency, the Packers are rolling the dice with their wide receiver depth and banking on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams to step up in their second seasons.

Everything you need to know about the stunning Packers-Eagles trade for Dontayvion Wicks

Here are the trade details, per ESPN's Adam Schefter:

It's not a bad return for the Packers, who were likely going to lose Wicks for nothing in free agency next year. Despite his undeniable talent, Wicks has been unable to carve out a significant role in Matt LaFleur's offense.

However, it's still a roll of the dice for the Packers. They have lost valuable wide receiver depth, especially with Doubs also departing this offseason, and Wicks had the potential to become a big-time wide receiver for the Packers. He just rarely had enough opportunities.

The Packers continue to stockpile draft picks after sending their next two first-round choices to the Dallas Cowboys for Micah Parsons.

Green Bay now has eight selections in this year's draft, including two fifth-rounders.

General manager Brian Gutekunst also seems to have one eye on the 2027 draft, which is expected to be deeper than this year's. He has already acquired a fourth-round pick in next year's draft from the Cowboys for Rashan Gary, and the Packers could receive the maximum four compensatory picks after losing Doubs, Malik Willis, Quay Walker, and Kingsley Enagbare in free agency.

Now, this Wicks trade adds another 2027 selection to the mix.
