The Green Bay Packers' latest, peerless execution of unearthing a draft gem and agreeing to terms on a contract extension just played out, as Tucker Kraft's new deal represents a new high-water mark for the tight end market.
As reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the full details of Kraft's contract are as follows: four years and $92 million, with a $26.5 million signing bonus.
In becoming the highest-paid tight end in NFL history, Kraft bested San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle (four years, $76.4 million) for the richest contract. It's quite the testament to who Kraft is as a player that the Packers shelled out the big bucks for him even after he played in only eight games last season due to a torn ACL.
But all indications are that Kraft is all systems go for Week 1's exciting NFC North tilt with the Vikings in Minnesota. If the start of his career is any indication, Kraft will more than live up to his new payday.
Brian Gutekunst and Packers' scouts strike gold (again) with Tucker Kraft
During the 2023 NFL Draft, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst did everything in his power to surround his new franchise quarterback Jordan Love with as many viable weapons as possible. After drafting wideout Jayden Reed (also extended this offseason) and tight end Luke Musgrave in the second round, he double-dipped at the latter position with Tucker Kraft, the 78th overall pick in Round 3.
Kraft wasn't some slam-dunk prospect. his draft status proves as much. That'll happen when you come from the FCS level. However, Kraft hailing from South Dakota State didn't put the Packers' scouting department off whatsoever.
As Love started to put everything together as Aaron Rodgers' successor down the stretch of the 2023 campaign, his young pass-catchers grew with him.
Once the next season hit, Kraft made the coveted Year 2 leap, recording 707 receiving yards on 50 receptions and seven TDs. He'd already had 32 catches for 489 yards and six scores in 2025 before his brutal knee injury.
Not that Kraft's injury is overlooked, but it's overshadowed to a large degree by Micah Parsons. As much as Green Bay's defense may face adversity early on sans Micah, the offense should be firing on all cylinders thanks to Kraft's return.
And yes, the offensive line is a major concern. That said, Kraft is a willing run blocker who should help in that regard as well. Love can lean on Kraft as a security blanket.
That Love-Kraft duo's high football IQ is a horror show for opposing defenses. They can effectively beat pressure and produce massive plays through the air on any given down. It's a big advantage for Green Bay in the midst of a year where the running game may take a step back, presumably without Josh Jacobs as the workhorse.
Hence why Kraft is indeed worthy of this mega extension.
