Packers fans won't like what Greg Jennings just said about Caleb Williams

C'mon Greg...

Look, you have to hand the Chicago Bears their flowers. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once and a while, and the Bears happened to beat these Green Bay Packers twice last season, including a gutting playoff defeat.

Quarterback Caleb Williams had his moments. Once again, give credit where it's due. But, one former Packers star is taking things a little too far. In fact, let's call it what it is: Greg Jennings has gone and crossed the line.

On a recent episode of FOX Sports' "First Things First," Jennings was discussing Williams after just two years in the league and had some big, bold words about the Bears' quarterback.

"He has the opportunity to not only be an MVP, but be a top-5 quarterback next year."

Okay, okay, okay ... let's just calm down a little bit here, Greg.

Greg Jennings' words on Caleb Williams are too soon for Packers fans

In the spirit of giving credit where it's due, sure, Williams was the first overall pick two years ago. And, he was the first overall pick for a reason. We all understand that by now.

But, putting him in the conversation for a league MVP seems a little premature, don't you think?

Williams might have been brilliant in spurts, last year, but let's be real here: he was only brilliant about 25 percent of the time. We saw it over and over again. Williams came to play in the fourth quarter, and he deserves that credit!

But, in that same vein, doesn't Williams deserve all the criticism for not figuring out how to play the first three quarters? I get the narrative. If he can figure out how to start hot and play a full game, then yes, he could be one of the best in the league.

But, that's asking him to pick up 75 percent of what's being left on the table. That's asking quite a bit.

Will he be unlocked? Can Ben Johnson help Williams come the other three-fourths of the way? We'll find out as time goes on, but for right now, let's slow our roll.

Now, this is the offseason, so it is prime time for hyperbole. But, when it comes to your most bitter rival, Jennings should know better than to twist the knife like this. He's a Packers legend and one of the best wide receivers to ever play in the green and gold.

The least he could do is sugarcoat things just a little bit.

But no, he went for the jugular, and less than two months after the Packers' hopes were crushed at Soldier Field.

Next time, maybe hold back just a tad.
