The Green Bay Packers didn't need star running back Josh Jacobs in their convincing Week 12 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. However, his status is imperative entering a divisional Thanksgiving showdown with the Detroit Lions.

Jacobs was a true game-time decision against Minnesota, indicating that his knee contusion would be a short-term issue. Fortunately, for Packers fans, that logic will prove true, with him reportedly slated to rejoin the lineup in Detroit.

Barring any setbacks, Jacobs "is supposed to be back" for Green Bay's upcoming clash with the Lions, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The three-time Pro Bowler is seemingly ready to roll, and his return couldn't come at a much better time for the Packers.

Packers get huge injury update on star RB Josh Jacobs ahead of Thanksgiving clash vs. Lions

There are massive implications at stake in the 23rd rendition of the Lions-Packers Turkey Day duel for both sides. Despite their impressive win-loss records, both clubs are looking up to the Chicago Bears in the NFC North standings. With that in mind, this contest could ultimately factor into the conference playoff picture come season's end, which Detroit currently isn't in.

Whoever comes out on top in Detroit will not only strengthen their grip on a wild-card spot. They'll also be in a prime position to supplant the Bears and host at least one postseason game. Jacobs and the Packers ostensibly understand the sense of urgency and that beating the Lions will take an all-hands-on-deck effort, evidenced by his expedited comeback.

Backup tailback Emanuel Wilson looked more than capable of carrying the load in Jacobs' stead to the tune of a career-best performance. Whether this sparks a newfound backfield split remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the latter is among the best players at his position and in the NFL overall, so the Packers will take whatever they can get.

Detroit is a stout run-stopping group, allowing the sixth-lowest yards per carry (3.9) and the 11th-fewest rushing yards per game (101.7). In other words, moving the ball on the ground versus them won't be easy for Green Bay, as they experienced firsthand back in Week 1. Having Jacobs at their disposal should make life easier for head coach Matt LaFleur and the Packers.

Through 10 games this season, Jacobs has amassed 648 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, adding 237 receiving yards on 28 catches.
