It only took 30 seconds. Packers fans already knew it.
Jeff Hafley's arrival in Miami has been met with skepticism from Dolphins fans. He's not the recognizable name like John Harbaugh or Robert Saleh, but Packers fans knew they would love him immediately during his press conference.
As expected, Hafley hit a home run with his opening comments as the Dolphins' head coach, immediately winning the fans over. He also took some time to send love to the Packers. Hafley got emotional talking about the people who helped him in his journey, specifically mentioning Matt LaFleur.
"I want to thank Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers," Hafley said. "The last two years have been two of the best of my life. He's a great football coach, he's a great friend, and he's going to have continued great success."
"I also want to thank those players there. In two years, we got real close. I mean really close. The love, the connection, the support. It was hard to say goodbye to those guys, but the phone calls and the texts to you guys meant everything to me. I love ya, I wish you the best, other than when we come to Lambeau next year."
Jeff Hafley sends love to Matt LaFleur and Packers in first comments as the Dolphins head coach
That final line is classic Hafley. He will bring his Dolphins to Lambeau Field next season, and the Packers can likely expect a more physical team than they've seen in years past. One that understands what it takes to play in Lambeau, even in frozen temperatures.
Hafley said he will call defensive plays in Miami. On offense, he wants to prioritize physicality up front and being able to lean heavily on the run game.
If Dolphins fans weren't convinced before, they undoubtedly are now.
Hafley and new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan were both impressive in their introductory press conferences, and it leaves a void in Green Bay.
LaFleur's search for Hafley's replacement is off to a fast start. He has reportedly interviewed Al Harris, the Bears' defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator and former Packers Pro Bowler. Other names include former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, Eagles pass game coordinator Christian Parker, and Vikings pass game coordinator Daronte Jones.
More names will likely join that list in the days ahead. Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde and Broncos defensive backs coach Jim Leonhard stand out as potential candidates, but the Packers must wait until after this weekend's games before they can contact either.
As expected, Hafley gave an emotional and passionate introductory press conference, and he made sure to show some love to LaFleur and the Packers.
