While Jordan Love had a decent enough 2024 campaign for the Green Bay Packers, leading the team to an 11-6 regular-season record and a second straight trip to the NFL Playoffs, there's no getting around the fact that he regressed a touch in his second year as a starter.
After spending the first three years of his career sitting behind Aaron Rodgers, Love finally got his shot at being the guy in Green Bay in 2023 and performed beautifully, completing 64.2% of his passes in the regular season for 4,132 yards and 32 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, adding another 287 yards and four scores on the ground.
Truth be told, with those numbers, Love might have received a little consideration in the NFL MVP race. But with the Packers going just 9-8, that wasn't a thing.
Love was also strong in the Packers' pair of playoff games, for the most part anyway, connecting on 67.3% of his passes for 466 yards with five touchdowns and two picks.
This past season, the 26-year-old completed 63.1% of his throws for 3,389 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. And Love wasn't nearly as sharp in the postseason, completing just 20 of 33 passes with zero touchdowns and three picks in Green Bay's 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round.
Now, to be fair, Love did miss two games early in the season after suffering an MCL sprain in the season opener in Brazil against those same Eagles. And with Josh Jacobs in the backfield, the Packers ran the ball much more in 2024 than they did the previous year, thus giving Love fewer passing opportunities.
Furthermore, he played far better in the second half of the season than he did early on. For instance, Love threw all 11 of his regular-season interceptions in his first eight outings, tossing at least one pick in each. Over his final seven appearances, though, he was interception-free and earned a passer rating of 107.7 or higher on four occasions.
So, he certainly bounced back nicely after a somewhat rough start. And if the early NFL MVP odds for next season are any indication, it seems as if NFL oddsmakers like Love's chances to have a complete bounce-back campaign in 2025.
Jordan Love ranks seventh overall in the early 2025 NFL MVP betting odds
Not long after Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was crowned 2024 NFL MVP, DraftKings quickly released the betting odds for next season's Most Valuable Player.
Unsurprisingly, the top four spots belong to AFC quarterbacks, but the No. 1 slot does not belong to Allen. That honor goes to two-time winner and 2024 runner-up Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, who's getting +500 odds. Allen comes in at a close second at +550 and is followed by Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, who are tied for third at +750.
Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders is the first NFC signal-caller on the list, ranking fifth at +1000, with Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers coming in sixth at +2000.
And right there at No. 7 is Jordan Love at +2200. Sure, the odds are a little long, but there's something to be said for him being the second NFC quarterback on the list. And ranking ahead of Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts and 2024 finalist Jared Goff makes his position even more impressive.
