Jordan Love gets a first-round wide receiver to throw to, a concept unheard of for recent Green Bay Packers quarterbacks. Understandably, he was pretty thrilled about it.

Love was let down by his receivers far too often last season, with the Packers ranking third in the league for drops. The sure-handed Matthew Golden helps remedy that, and his game goes far beyond his ability to make impressive catches.

Golden ran a 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, a time nobody could match.

With defenses forced to focus on Josh Jacobs and the Packers' punishing run game, Golden's arrival gives them a totally different problem to worry about. Love knows it, and so does Matt LaFleur. The Packers' head coach shed some light on how the Golden pick went down with QB1.

Jordan Love was 'ecstatic' after Packers drafted Matthew Golden in the first round

LaFleur appeared live on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday morning, where he shared Love's reaction to the Golden pick.

"Add in a guy like Golden, I know (Love) was ecstatic. I FaceTimed him last night, and he was like, 'Ooh, I've got to get my arm loose.' That's tough to throw to 4.29," said LaFleur.

He's not wrong. Golden's lightning speed will cause nightmares for opponents, but it may take some time for Love to get in sync with his new receiver. He'll have to get the ball out that much quicker to hit Golden in stride, but it's a good problem to have.

The Packers needed to give the passing game a jolt, and Golden certainly offers that.

It's a rare change of pace from Brian Gutekunst, who has preferred to prioritize defense in the first round. When the Packers turn to offense on Day 1, it's usually to add an offensive lineman, as they did with Jordan Morgan last year.

What a time to break tradition and draft a wide receiver — right in front of the hometown fans. Love is ecstatic, and so are we.
