The Green Bay Packers are a model of consistency across the NFL and across professional sports. Since 2000, the team has had just five losing seasons, but a whopping 15 seasons with double-digit wins. However, some have argued that the franchise has largely underachieved, given how much all-time quarterback talent has been in the building.
Entering the fourth year of the Jordan Love era, the Packers have maintained their status as one of the most consistent teams in the NFL, but a clear ceiling has been reached, and there's no indication that it will be shattered in 2026, unfortunately.
On the flip side, though, the Packers are continually a playoff team and are a tough out no matter who the team plays, but in the Love era, there is a clear trend developing that the passer really needs to stop in its tracks in 2026.
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love has won nine games in all three years of his starting career
In each of Love's three years as the Packers' starting quarterback, he's finished with the following records:
- 2023: 9-8
- 2024: 9-6
- 2025: 9-5-1
Nine wins in all three years as the team's starter - no more, no less. Sure, this is a clear, consistent trend from the quarterback, and yes, there is more to a football team than just the starting passer, but as we have seen in today's NFL, much of a team's success is based around the franchise player.
Love has missed four regular-season games in the 2024 and 2025 seasons as well, and he's also hit a bit of a wall statistically. His touchdown percentage has been 5.5, 5.9, and 5.2 percent in all three starting seasons, and his yearly passer rating has been 96.1, 96.7, and 101.2 in those three years.
Green Bay has finished either second or third in the NFC North over this stretch, as the team has had to settle into a Wild Card spot each season, losing in the first round in 2024 and 2025. Since 2023, Green Bay's offense has ranked 12th, 8th, and 16th in points scored.
The Packers have turned into the most slightly-above-average team in the NFL, which is great, but a lack of Super Bowl qualities and a more present 'good, not great' vibe hovering over the franchise has created the situation the team has fallen into over the last three seasons.
Sure, you could argue that some of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL would love to have this kind of success, but that's also the point. The Packers aren't one of those franchises. When this type of trend has been present for a period of time, it does kind of go right back to the quarterback.
Love is absolutely a franchise quarterback, and there's no doubt about it, but has he ever truly been thought of as being among the very best? The same has gone for head coach Matt LaFleur - a head coach who has been among one of the better coaches in the league, but has never really been thought of as someone in that top tier.
Something has to give in 2026, right? Well, perhaps not. This might be what the Packers are - a perfectly 'good, not great' football team. This is something that could lead to another five winning seasons in a row, but until we see a radical change, the Packers are going to continue hovering in these waters.
And much of the pressure is on Love. With each passing year that the Packers fall flat or simply don't make much progress in the playoffs, the criticism will get louder.
