As one would imagine after the Green Bay Packers lost their final four games of the regular season before suffering one of the more humiliating playoff defeats in franchise history, many fans called for head coach Matt LaFleur to be fired. That obviously didn't happen, as not only was LaFleur not fired, but he was ultimately given a multiyear extension.
And while not every person was pleased with that decision, Jordan Love is not one of those people.
Love has kept somewhat of a low profile over the last couple of months, but he spoke with Kyle Malzhan of WFRV-TV earlier this week and had nothing but great things to say about LaFleur when asked about the extension.
"Yeah, it was great," Love said. "Like you mentioned, that's been my head coach since I got here. That's the coach who drafted me, so to be able to keep Matt around is awesome, and I'm very happy about that. I think anytime in the NFL...I've done this in college, where the coaches leave, and you're in a new system, and it's tough. It's a lot to be able to learn a whole new system, a new terminology.
"So, for a quarterback to be able to stay in the same system and keep the same terminology, it definitely helps me, helps my teammates out, that we can hit the ground running when we get to OTAs and just build off what we've done the past couple years."
Jordan Love is 'very happy' that Matt LaFleur is back with the Packers
And there you have it.
The 2026 campaign will mark the seventh that LaFleur and Love have been together, with the only head coach-QB combo having spent more time together being Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
Love, of course, was taken by the Packers in the first round of the 2020 draft and spent the first three years of his career sitting behind Aaron Rodgers. And in the three years since he took over, he's gotten progressively better and has taken Green Bay to the playoffs every season, which neither Rodgers nor Brett Favre did in their first three years as QB1.
The issue is that the Packers have gone just 1-3 in those appearances and have been bounced in the Wild Card Round each of the past two years, which is why so many Cheeseheads were calling for LaFleur to be fired in the first place.
But what's done is done, and all anyone can do now is move forward. Love is obviously ecstatic about LaFleur being back, but it's now on both of them to help Green Bay get back to that next level.
