After a two-game losing streak at the beginning of November, the Green Bay Packers have since won four games in a row and appear to be hitting their stride at the right time. Sitting at 9-3-1 after a huge win over the Chicago Bears, the Packers are first in the NFC North and could run away with this division in the final weeks of the season.
Three of the Packers' final four games are on the road, and their lone home game is against the Baltimore Ravens, while having to go on the road against the Denver Broncos, Bears, and Minnesota Vikings. However, while this stretch is tough, it's also a perfect opportunity for QB Jordan Love to lead this team, perhaps earn the first seed in the NFC, and put his stamp on the MVP race.
The favorite right now is surely Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams, but Love is heating up and could make things very interesting for the voters in the coming weeks.
Jordan Love's MVP candidacy could get a massive boost in the coming weeks
There really is a lot that goes into the MVP award, but at this point, it's really a 'best QB' award. However, there are likely a few things that the Packers would have to accomplish if Love did win the award. A top-two seed in the NFC is probably one of them, and obviously, an NFC North title would have to be the other.
On paper, though, Love would have to pass that test. Fortunately, he has done just that. During the Packers' four-game win streak, Love has put up the following numbers:
- 62/100
- 781 yards
- 9 TDs
- 1 INT
- 112.1 passer rating
This four-game stretch would actually put him on pace for 38 touchdowns and four interceptions over a complete 17-game season, which is insane efficiency. On the season, Love has completed just over 67 percent of his passes for 3,028 yards, 22 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
His 105.4 passer rating would be the highest of his starting career, and his completion percentage would be the same. The MVP race probably gets very interesting as early as Week 15, as the Packers visit the 11-2 Denver Broncos, who sport the league's best defense and pass rush.
If Love and the Packers were to go into Denver and beat the Broncos, you'd have to think that the MVP race begins to angle toward Love, as the Broncos have not lost a home game in over a calendar year. Week 15 is really when things can begin to go into Love's favor.
The Packers would also get to 10-3-1 with the win, and their odds for the NFC North would increase. Love certainly has some work to do, but the groundwork for a late-season MVP push is there.
