Since Jordan Love underwent surgery on his right thumb during the offseason, it's been fair to wonder exactly how this will impact the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback. To this point, we've been assured it won't necessarily alter Love's game plan.
But, in the Packers' recent practice, running back Josh Jacobs wanted Green Bay media to notice one small detail.
"I don't know if ya'll seen it, he handed off with his left (hand) today," Jacobs told Kyle Malzhan of WFRV Local 5.
That's an interesting piece of information. In fact, it's enough to make fans have to stop and think. Love's surgery was on his right thumb; on the hand he throws with. But, he was handing the ball off with his left hand in practice?
It might come across as a strange bit of news, but it does make sense when you consider the precautions Love has been taking.
Jordan Love has been protecting his surgically-repaired thumb in practice
For fans or media who haven't necessarily paid this close of attention, Love has been protecting that right thumb, in practice, at times. While he's said it's not going to limit his game-day strategy, he's still taking precautions in practice.
Those precautions have also included handing the ball off with his right hand, although in highly-unorthodox manner, as well.
"I think he'll be all right, man. I just tell him to give me the ball. It's cool however you get it to me, I don't care," Jacobs said with a laugh and a smile.
After coming off one of the best overall seasons of his career, Jacobs has every right to demand the ball, jokingly or not. His 15 rushing touchdowns in 2024 were a huge catalyst for this offense en route to the Packers' playoff berth.
As for Love's thumb, fans are still hoping he is, in fact, going to be 100 percent in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. That Lions defense fell apart due to several injuries last year, but this season, they've gotten a bunch of their guys back including Aidan Hutchinson, and Green Bay knows they cannot let him come home-free on Love.
